In a significant development, former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul has emerged as a strong contender for the position of Bangladesh’s new pace bowling coach. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is holding active discussions with him as they look to revamp their support staff.
Gul told Cricbuzz, “We’re in contact. Let’s see how it goes—it’s all about alignment on expectations and terms.”
Bangladesh’s Coaching Staff Gets a Makeover

The BCB’s current pace coach Andre Adams, whose contract runs till 2026, is unlikely to continue due to internal concerns over his effectiveness. Though he’s still lined up for the Zimbabwe Tests, the board is ready to move forward with new ideas.
Since hanging up his boots in 2020, Gul has built a solid coaching portfolio. He’s been part of setups in PSL, Afghanistan, and Pakistan’s national team, making him a well-rounded candidate.
He’s not the only one on BCB’s radar though—Shaun Tait, Ottis Gibson, and Allan Donald are also being considered.
In parallel, Phil Simmons’ contract has been extended through the next World Cup, while Mohammad Salahuddin is returning as senior assistant coach. Known for his tactical brain, Salahuddin is set to bolster Bangladesh’s strategy for major upcoming fixtures.
